Bitter Jackass III

So we came to our senses a bit and realized that growing old and decrepit in the remote jungle, without mod cons or cell phone service, wasn't the greatest idea. Wouldn't a pied a terre, a wee little town place, be just the ticket? That way we can enjoy Hanna's, The Wild Side Cafe, and Cafe del Sol, friends, banks, yogurt from Celina's, electricity and water to our heart's content, and visit Bitter Jackass for fun, art, fruit and recreation. The money is being borrowed and we have found a perfect spot 150 yards from the town center with a shack, seven fruit trees, and sloping yard down to a creek. From the top of the driveway is a divine view of the valley. You're all invited to stay once we have painted the plywood a different shade of lurid green. When finances eventually allow, we'll knock down the shack and build a dream home tall enough to look over the trees, and with indoor plumbing.

Philip was on site August 28-September 4, 2004 to check up on Roy's magnificent clearing operations. The current driveway, it turns out, is underwater part of the year, so Roy is making a new driveway, through a stand of mahogany trees. Fruit trees are being planted around the perimeter of the home area and the lake is looking super.

Our townhome to be, pending home equity loans and some negotiations.

View from the creek to the back of the house. Outhouse visible to the right.

Back at the jungle, the wild tamarind is glad to see sunlight.

Vista of the home site, now cleared to about 100 yds x 600 yds, leading to the lake at the bottom. Note the scale of the pick-up truck at center. We now have 70+ fruit trees planted around the perimiter (as long as the wewe ants don't come back).

The rainy season, even during the current drought, encourages the heliconias, which in turn makes the humming birds and butterflies happy.

Kinky gumbolimbo trunk.

What the fashionable use for umbrellas when the downpours come.

The latest appearance of Vulture Lake; quite lovely and already mature; cohunes everywhere. Winston will plant big bamboo around the back.

A bit clayey on the bottom but a good swimming hole of the future.

Ring pattern of a palm stump.
